Safer Roads
The HDCSP has set up a Road Safety Group with the aim to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in road traffic accidents on the roads in the Harrogate District.The work of the partnership is to include all road users in educational activities which include schools talksand demonstrations for the your people to working with elderly drivers through local initiatives.Ultimately, the partnership aims to help reduce the number of road accidents, deaths and injuries for alldrivers through educational events to bring home how vulnerable road users either as pedestrians, cyclistsor motorists are.The partnership will target Young and New drivers and Motorcyclists to raise awareness and to show the dangers on the district's roads and offer ways to improve driving and riding skills.Speeding is a large contributor of road accidents and the partnership will work together to monitor speeding and utilise speed awareness equipment and events to educate drivers of the effects of speeding on thedistricts roads.The local partnership will work to contribute to NYCC Vision of saving 95 lives on the county's roads through the activity of the '95 Alive' partnership.The membership of the Road Safety group consists of representatives from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, North Yorkshire Police, Harrogate District Safer Communities Partnership, Harrogate BoroughCouncil and North Yorkshire County Council.The Road Safety Group deliver and support a series of events throughout the year, to help promote road safety and help reduce casualties in the Harrogate District.To keep up to date with what road safety events are planned view the forthcoming events page.New Drivers EventsThe Road Safety Group have delivered several New Drivers Events over the past few years. The events are aimed at providing information to help reduce and prevent road traffic collisions.This multi agency event is free and many partners are involved- North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Road Safety officers from North Yorkshire County Council and 95 Alive. Other partners include driving instructors, Helen Dickinson Driving Training, Institute of Advanced Motorists and Harrogate Auto Electrics.15 minute workshops take place:Hazard PerceptionAvoidance techniquesCar Maintenance and what to look for when purchasing your first vehicle.Looking for Faults on a vehicle or Observation AnticipationBrake Reaction TestSeat Belt SledLegislative issuesThe workshops are followed by a Road Traffic Collision demonstration, showing the resources that are taken to rescue somebody from a car that which has been involved in an accident.If you are interested in attending a new drivers event which are held every 6 months please use the contact us page and visit the forthcoming events page for dates and timings of the events.
